Special Education Department
In compliance with NYS requirements, MECA's special education teachers will support students with IEP and 504 plans. Our school is proud to have the best Guidance Counselors team dedicated to providing academic and emotional support to students in need. Our team works closely with students to identify and address any barriers that may be interfering with their learning. We believe that by providing students with a strong support system, we can enable them to become successful, resilient individuals who are better prepared to take on any challenge that comes their way.
As MECA students with disabilities move from the high school campus to the college campus at BMCC they will also continue to receive support through the Office of Accessibility. In order to create an inclusive environment for students with disabilities, the Office of Accessibility will determine the student's eligibility for academic accommodations and advise the BMCC community and determine the best ways to assist these students.

What is IEP
The Individualized Education program is a plan imposed by the DOE to provide students with Free and Appropriate Education in their Least Restrictive Environment.
The Process
After parents submit a referral, the DOE will evaluate the child within 60 days and meet with the parents to formulate the best education plan for the child.
